If it isn't broken, hit it harder

Seriously? Are 140 characters worth that much to you?

We hate doing this, but we're going to talk for a few seconds about Internet entrepreneur Jason Calacanis and his offer to twitter to be suggested to people when they sign up. A link on the story is here.

To say that Calacanis is a divisive figure in the online world would be putting it mildly. Much like the Grateful Dead or Frank Zappa, either you like him or you don't, and you probably won't move from one side to the other too much. But one thing he's good at, which is probably one of the reasons for his divisiveness, is his ability for self-promotion. Listen to any episode of TWiT he is on, and it quickly becomes TWiT with Jason Calacanis.

We're going to be quick about this: His offer is ridiculous and greatly overstates twitter and its impact (which we will be discussing late this week when we talk about Facebook <> Twitter <> Google). But it makes great press, and gets Calacanis' name a little closer to some other mainstream publications, which is what he's looking for either way. It's a win-win for him.

To be honest, this will hopefully be the only thing we write about this. Jason Calacanis is like Voldemort: The more people say his name, the stronger he becomes.
